Ring-tailed Lemur

Lemur catta

Description:

Although well known as an iconic Madagascan lemur, the ring-tailed is not typical and spend more time on the ground than any other lemur. They form the largest social groups, sometimes with 20 or more individuals. Theirs is a female dominated society.

Habitat:

Here at the Anja Reserve, They have a broad range throughout south and south-west Madagascar

Notes:

During the breeding season, the males indulge in stink fights (nice!) After anointing their tails with scent from their wrist glands, they face one another and waft their quivering tails towards their opponents like smelly black and white flags. Notes from 'Madagascar Wildlife' Bradt guide
