A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Ardea alba
A tall wading bird with a long neck and long legs. They are all white except for their yellow beak and black legs.
Found in both fresh and saltwater habitats. They are found in scattered areas across North America but mostly the south east. South America is used as their winter get away. In Florida the great egret is found year round.
This bird is the symbol of the national Audubon society. Siblicide occurs within this species. During breeding season a patch of skin on their face turns neon green and longer plumes will grow on their backs. Allaboutbirds.org
