Earthworm

Pheretima posthuma

Description:

Cylindrical worms of brownish colour; common in India.

Habitat:

Moist soil. In gardens, under bricks...pretty common actually.

Notes:

The bird is a common myna (Acridotheres tristis) chick hand-reared by me. It was introduced to the living Earthworm when it ignored it totally. On the second sighting it immediately knew how to attack and kill. I will try to upload the video.

Mark Ridgway, Chirpy, that was her name....LOVED earthworms (and grapes) and she probably ate her way through the entire Pheretima population of Delhi....I wanted to teach her to hunt for the time she would be set free....You should see the video. Vicious, she was. Thanks for your interest and help.

Ha ha !! The mynah does look confused. You, as it's mother, should have taught it how to eat the earthworm. :-)
