Little golden-mantled flying fox

Pteropus pumilus

Notes:

update: This was identified by bat expert Dr Phillip Alviola as a sub adult Pteropus pumilus. It was on a "no parking" sign in our office parking lot... I have no idea why it was there. Perhaps it was injured and couldn't fly. As the 2nd photo shows, I helped it scramble up a palm tree. That was the closest I've ever been to a bat. An amazing experience.

I just love it when a spotting gets a name...especially when an expert responds to follow up.

Thanks to MichaelS and Neil Ross for interacting with my post. I finally got a bat biologist in the Philippines to ID my photos - he says this is Pteropus pumilus, the little golden-mantled flying fox. There's more info on the species here: http://archive.fieldmuseum.org/philippin...

Welcome, Machel. Excellent spotting! I've suggested an ID for you. Wikipedia provides lots of info on this endemic species to the Philippines. It's just a suggestion, but a good place to start your own investigations to confirm or refute the ID.
