Plexippus petersi
Salticidae; Salticinae; Plexippus; Plexippus petersi (Karsch,1878). Wikipedia gives a detailed, erudite description with phrases like "clad with whitish setae" .... "blackish-brown leading edges" and "dense patch of brown hairs". It is indeed truly descriptive and when I look at my photos and read Wiki's description, I am thinking how cute it looks. But in reality, if I were a house fly and encountered Mr. Plexippus petersi, I would be looking at a fanged, spiny monster, the bringer-of-death from whom there is little chance of escape. Its all just a matter of perspective. I still think he's cute.
This spider was spotted in our front garden, where it always maintains a welcome presence.
