In the first photo, you can see the apothecia, or fruiting body of the lichen. These are somewhat common, but very interesting lichen.
This one had fallen out of a tree on the Chassahowitzka Salt Marsh Trails

Well! I am an old man and I have a beard and it looks nothing like that :-) Nice series Machi. Thanks for sharing. Take a look at my latest fungi. Any ideas?
