A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
This is an unidentified planthopper of the family Flatidae. The group is cosmopolitan in distribution. Adults of some species are brightly colored and easily identified but others require the use of ID keys and dissection. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flatidae
Observed here on the upperside of a taro (Xanthosoma sagittifolium) leaf in a large semi-urban yard & garden next to a disturbed patch of remnant lowland forest in the equatorial tropics of northern New Guinea.
