I know how to figure out the date. The GPS data from the photo I do not know how to accesses, plus the camera used probably doesn't have that capability.
Many standard paint programs and photo editing programs can now read the data provided you know where to look for it, some call it metadata which is the same as exif. In fact, if you have the original file you can click on properties and Windows will read the created date for you.
Does your original picture have an embedded EXIF file, as most do nowadays. If it does we can extract the data from there. When the pictures are uploaded to Project Noah they have to be resized for display and the original picture is stored on a secure server which we do not have access to. The resizing program strips out the data if the original file was larger than 1200 pixels in either dimension.
Great Groosha! Thanks for the update. Let's due our best to figure out the exact location…maybe the metadata of the photo contains the actual date that will jog your memory of that specific trip so you can remember where you took the photo. If this is St. Lucia this will likely be a Live Oak tree that is common in South Florida and the Carribbean.
July 2012 is the date that this was taken. I don't have an exact day, so the system automatically put in the date I posted the spotting. Most likely this was St. Lucia.
Lovely spotting. I see your other spottings from this same date, (July 26th, 2012) are from Quintana Roo. I imagine you spotted this and the others there as well. Would you be so kind as to please add the location information to the spottings that don't have it. Thank you and happy spotting.
Hello groosha6, there is another side to Project Noah where postings such as this are accepted, and that is the Project Noah Worldwide Facebook page. Spottings such as this which have insufficient data for the database to work properly (invalid date can create errors in the reports) are better posted to the facebook page until sufficient information has been obtained to elevate them to the database. We are looking at ways to improve the database with more filtering and a new version of our program is in the pipeline but awaiting further funding at present. You can find our worldwide page here https://www.facebook.com/groups/35417711...
Hello groosha6. This is beautiful but please note a spotting can be defined as a digital-image-observation of an organism at a certain place, at a certain time. At a minimum, It needs all of these attributes. Thanks for maintaining the scientific value of the PN database.

If you'd like to instruct me on how I can extract this data I'd be glad to do that, or if you'd like do it yourself I can send you the pics.

I'm providing as much information as I can. This is a tree which I can't ID, from somewhere in the Caribbean, in July 2012.
