Variable Tussock Moth Caterpillar

Dasychira vagans

Description:

Edit: Thanks to a fellow projectnoah user, I believe this to be the caterpillar of the Variable Tussock Moth. Found this critter dangling from a silken thread and try, try, trying again to swing to a nearby fern branch on my porch. I got an excellent slow motion video which is just mesmerizing to watch. Eventually, it made it to my potted fern, which may be a problem as I don’t know what species this is, but I think it’s some variety of Tussock Moth, which seem to eat everything. Any id suggestions? Thanks!

Habitat:

Deciduous forest
