Eastern Redcedar

Juniperus virginiana

Description:

Short and scratchy needles that turn scaly as they age. Flaky thin bark that peals off easily to reveal a red inner bark. When cut down, the aroma is unmistakeable and the deep red heartwood is beautiful. However, there are not many on the property and we are trying to protect all of them that are left.

Habitat:

Mixed forest.
