Cardinalis Cardinalis
The male Northern Cardinal is bright red with a black face, red creast, and red bill. The female is grayish olive above, buff below, the wings and creast are dullish reddish, and the bill is pink.
The Northern Cardinal ranges from the Dakotas to Nova Scotia, southb to Texas and Florida, also in southern Arizona and New Mexico, and southeastern California. They live in woodland edges, thickets, parks, and gardens.
Northern Cardinals are the best-known birds in the United States. These bright red birds brighten suburban landscapes throughout the year.
