Copperhead

Agkistrodon contortrix

Description:

Light brown with darker brown shapes.

Habitat:

Deep ivy vines ground cover hidden 1 foot deep.

Notes:

Was cutting deep deep vines/ivy back in my yard that was ground cover on a slope. And hit this snake with my hedge trimmer. Fortunately or not I hit the snake in the neck and it died right away. Found much smaller baby one a week ago in same place. Last spotting person said little one was a brown snake that was harmless. I think it's a southern copperhead.
