Peron's Tree Frog

Litoria peroni

Description:

Also known as Emerald-spotted Tree Frog, Laughing Tree Frog, Maniacal Cackle Frog. Bright yellow lined inside legs and some of underside, rest of body patterned in grey mottling shades spotted with iridescent bright green spots of varying size, eyes are glistening intricately patterned silver/gold and black with a dark cross shape through centre. Belly smooth, back roughly texture/bumps. This one 30mm, but they can grow to 60mm. Eats insects. Call is an incredible ratchet sound.

Habitat:

Found in south east Australia. This one in dry woodland in north east NSW inside a plastic drum containing small amount of water.

Thanks Mark, Neil, Shanna & bg11a1 for your comments on this one. Up close the emerald green glitters, they are incredibly beautiful...as all frogs are! They appear in the strangest places Shanna! Neil the call is as individual as each frog and the 'cackle' reminds me of something I've heard at times when walking past a pub on a street corner! Not from frogs though!
