Brown pelican

Pelecanus occidentalis

Description:

"Dubie" is a resident at Save Our Seabirds. His story began when he was an accidental birth at the sanctuary. Precautions are taken when birds lay eggs so the mother continue sitting on her egg instead if laying too many and the egg will not hatch. "Dubie" hatched anyway and while efforts were made to raise him to be released, he had a deformity in his left wing, as you can see by the photo. Because of this, he couldn't be released so SOS was made his home. He's a very friendly and playful pelican and loves to chew on his toys, shoe laces, and as you can see, cameras!
