Description:

Green stalk, red, bulbous, squishy seeds with hard center. Seeds break off from pod almost like the inside of a pomegranate.

Coniferous wetland forest

This looks pretty convincing. The weird part is, this is the only part of the plant that was sticking out of the ground. A single stalk, straight up from the mulch in the middle of the trail. There were no leaves or remnants of a flower or anything.

Hi, jamiegarrard. Can't quite tell for sure, but maybe Jack-in-the-Pulpit. Did the rest of the plant look like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arisaema_tr... And, hey, when you're photographing plants, take pics of all the different parts ... it'll give the folks on PN their best chance of helping you out with an ID. Keep on spotting!
