Roadside vegetation in urban area NE Thailand .
Hi cufcal64,
I think that your butterfly is Junonia hierta hierta (Fabricius, 1798). When I first looked at the available pictures online (and there are very many), I had a little difficulty sorting it out. If you start with the Wikipedia article as I did, you might think my ID Suggestion is wrong because the ssp. J. h. hierta is shown as distributed in southern Yunnan, with no mention of other places. Then further down the page, the article says that the species is distributed in Southeast Asia. So, it might be slightly confusing, but if you look in Butterflies of India at https://www.ifoundbutterflies.org/junoni...... you will see many small variations in the markings of both the species and the subspecies, including one or two that look like your butterfly. It might take a little time to search through enough of them to find the images that look like yours, but maybe you can have a look and hopefully you will agree with my conclusion that what you have in Thailand is Junonia hierta hierta. Good luck.
