Shining Leaf Chafer

Anomala sp.

Description:

Scarabaeidae; Rutelinae; Anomalini; Anomala; Anomala sp. The Head, Pronotum, Scutellum and Legs are all brown. The Elytra are gold with broad brown irregular stripes that give the impression of having been hastily smeared on with a paint brush.

Habitat:

I spotted this beetle on the floor of the dog kennel early in the morning when I went out to to feed my dogs. I felt that it was in danger of being squashed as the dogs can be boisterous at feeding time. So I collected it in a glass jar and, immediately after feeding the dogs, took some pictures and then released it into the back garden where I have seen many similar beetles. It was all over before 7:00 a.m.
