Marbled salamander

Description:

In the mole salamander family. A male and female are pictured. The male can be distinguished by the brighter white color of his bands. Typically chunky black bodies with white to silver crossbands. 11-12 costal grooves. Juveniles can have more or a dark brownish or gray color with small light specs.

Habitat:

Woodlands dry hillsides or low lands. They range from north Florida to south New Hampshire, there western range stops at far eastern Texas.
