Vanilla Leaf

Achlys triphylla

Description:

AKA Deers Foot or Sweet After Death A beautiful plant that spreads quickly by rhizomes to carpet the shady understory. The large, clover like leaves have fluttering scallops along the edges. Tiny white flowers form on the on thin, erect stalks. Dried leaves smell heavenly, like vanilla, and are said to repel insects. They remain on the plant as "skeletons" throughout the winter and are as delicate as fairy wings. It prefers shaded, moist sites with some shade. http://www.nwplants.com/business/catalog...

Habitat:

From B.C. to Northern California hardy USDA 7-9

Notes:

Smells strongly of vanilla when drying. Used to repel insects, potporri. Questioable as a tea, I do not recommend, even though Ive seen it on a few sites. https://bonneylassie.blogspot.com/2013/0...
