Tievine, Cotton Morning Glory

Ipomoea cordatotriloba

Description:

Weak perennial, low climbing or trailing vine with lavender flowers. Found in the lower southeastern Gulf states to Texas. Leaves have a continuous, untoothed margin, either heart-shaped (cordate) or deeply 3- to 5-lobed, 1 1/2 to 3 1/2 inches long, 3/4 to 2 inches wide, with a long, tapering point and concave sides. Sepals and leaves without hairs. Flowers are rosy lavender with dark centers.

Habitat:

Beside a trail in a new urban park.

Notes:

Tievine is just one of many (about 25) native and non-native morning glory vines in Florida (Wunderlin, 2003).It is a frequent native vine of disturbed sites throughout the state and blooms all year. Ipomoea cordatotriloba is located in AL, AR, FL, GA, LA, MI, NC, SC, and TX (Kartesz, 1999). Source: http://plants.ifas.ufl.edu/node/200
