Hi Sujata. This animal is the larva of a type of moth. The family is called Psychidae and yours in particular is one of the Clania genus. It builds the case from it's own silk and cut twigs. When it needs to make the case bigger it cuts a slit in the side of the silk and inserts a new stick working from the inside. These are associated with certain species of Eucalyptus only and would have originally been imported from Australia. You can read more here... http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_...
