Mexican Gray Hairstreak

Strymon bebrycia

Description:

Dime-sized, silver in appearance.

Habitat:

Open prairie

Notes:

I have photographed these butterflies a number of times before but, this is the first time I have seen one with its wings open. They usually keep them closed and slide them up and down against each other so that a predator will think that those little swallowtails are its head. I assume that this one was trying to catch some sun as it's cooling off here in Texas.
