Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca
The False chanterelle has a cap that is orange-brown, shallow, velvety, initially convex but becoming funnel-shaped. The gill-like structures are orange and forked, flesh waxy.
It is found in both hardwood and conifer forests, in summer and autumn. It fruits from the ground or from decaying wood.
It was located in a marsh deciduous area near north Cotton Lake.
