A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Trichosurus vulpecula
A Common Brushtail Possum. This joey was still in it's mother's pouch. I rescued it after she was hit by a car. It's inside a sock as marsupial joeys feel most safe when enclosed.
It's illegal to keep native wildlife, so I passed this little joey onto a registered wildlife carer to raise and release.

Aaaaw poor little darling. So glad he's ok now :)
I didn't meet the care-giver. I just dropped it off at my vet and they called Parks and Wildlife to get the name of someone who has an opening in their critter nursery (carers tend to specialize - a friend of my partner's only does wombats). Once joeys have fur, they have a pretty good survival rate. Parks and Wildlife try to return them to the same area that they came from to keep from mixing-up animal populations. If animals are un-releaseable they usually go to a wild-life park, where they'll have free-run, but regular feedings.
I see your note about the care giver. That's wonderful. Did he or she say how good a chance it had of returnin to the wild and surviving?
Great save. Can you make a pet of them?
Oh, how sad. I hope it survives; glad you were there to get it and pass it on.
