White-lined Sphinx

Hyles lineata

Description:

Lovely green eyed, green, yellow body caterpillar. Red spots and some black stripes. Some of there were at least inches long and very fat! A horn on the back end.

Habitat:

Sonoran desert, feeding off of weeds after monsoons hit!

Notes:

There were hundreds of thousands of these caterpillars in weed fields. Two different evenings the highway was green with all the squashed ones who thought it was greener on the other side. Just a few left now since the food has run out for them.
