Grey Midge

Chironomus cloacalis

Description:

A grey mosquito-like fly with both its front legs held close to the head and extended forwards on either side. Body was a pale grey with a banded abdomen. Wings were held flat against the body.

Habitat:

Spotted resting on a eucalyptus leaf - tree near creek.

Notes:

This family of midges are non-biting and do not form galls on plants. Family: Chironomidae
