Brain Suckers (Cave Glow Worms)

Description:

A fungus gnat larvae with the local Belizeans call "Brain Suckers." The most well know common name is Cave Glow Worms. These flies spin webs with long strands hanging down with a sticky substance on them. When an insect tries to fly through the webs, the insect gets, then larva slowly makes it's way to the victim. To attract insects, the larva bioluminescence.

Habitat:

These were found in a forested canyon. These are usually found in a cave.

Notes:

These likely got the name brain suckers because they hang from the ceilings and walls of the cave, where they can easily end up on a passer-through's head. It was also said that the larvae only eat the brains of the victim insects, but that is most definitely not correct.
