I have two other species for you as a reference when doing ID research. Manduca quinquemaculata ( five-spotted hawkmoth or tomato hornworm), Sphinx chersis (Great Ash Sphinx or Northern Ash Sphinx) ((I would suggest this one for ID, but they are so similar so I leave this one up to you :) )) and last, but not least Ceratomia undulosa (Waved Sphinx). They are all habitating south Canada.

No, you're right. With that tail, it must be a Sphynx instead.
