I believe this is a juvenile turkey vulture, although I did not have the chance to see any identifiers on the wings.
Widespread over open country, scrublands, deserts and foothills. Also found in pastures, grasslands and wetlands.
The second photo is a wake of vultures. A group of vultures is called a kettle, committee or wake. Kettle refers to vultures in flight. Committee are vultures resting on the ground or in trees. Wake is a group that is feeding.
