Killdeer

Charadrius vociferus

Description:

This week my brother and I were digging for fossils at Penn Dixie near Hamburg, New York. Despite the site being basically a large pile of rocks, with only occasional little trees and wildflowers, there were several killdeer there. Maybe they were there to eat the grasshoppers and moths that could also be seen there, or maybe they were just there for a drink from the brook before going back to the nearby woods.
