Cactus

Cactaceae

Description:

I believe this is an Opuntia, but I'm not sure. The areoles do not seem to produce spines. Planted in someone’s front yard. About 3 feet tall, spread about 8 feet long, but trimmed to about 2 feet in width.

Habitat:

"The cactus family is native to the Americas, where their range extends from Patagonia to southern Canada, but they are densest and most diverse in the regions of northern Mexico and the southern tropics of Argentina and Bolivia." (Wikipedia)

Notes:

One of the photos is a close up of the ‘trunk’ which was about 4-6" in diameter.
