Couroupita guianensis.The flowers are extremely fragrant and appear on the tree trunk. A structure similar to snake-hood with the stamen covers the central part with the stigma. The fruit has the shape of a canon-ball and hence the name!

You are welcome, Elena. Very nicely shot with all the stages - buds, flowers, shed-petals, and the 'cannonballs'!

These trees are also spread across India and the flowers are used as offerings to Hindu Gods. The shape of the stigma resembles that of a Shiva-linga (check the photo above - the stigma in the ones whose petals are shed). It is a beautiful structure!
