A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Saperda calcarata
A large beetle about 25 mm in length with long antennae. The points where the antennae attach to the head are dark black and look like eyes. The head, thorax and wing covers are a shade of orange and covered with many small black dots.
The local habitat is mixed forest and contains quaking aspen (Populus tremuloides) which is the chief larval host plant of this beetle.
