Northern shoveler, males and females

Anas clypeata

Description:

These are the photos I am most excited about, since today was my first time seeing northern shovelers! They only migrate through NYC, so there aren't many opportunities to see them. For some reason only one female was with them. Edit: Whoops, I now see I'm wrong and there was a second female! Either way, the male:female ratio seemed unusually high. :)

Habitat:

Urban park

Thank you! They weren't nearly as tame as the mallards and wanted to stay further out in the pond, so they were a bit difficult to get a proper picture of... had to zoom all the way in for all of them.
