Calisoga spider or False tarantula

Calisoga longitarsus

Description:

Small, hairy spider, about the size of a quarter

Habitat:

California chaparral

Notes:

Found dead, unfortunately, on my doorstep. I thought it was a baby tarantula. It must have gotten into pesticide around the house foundation. Info at: http://nature.berkeley.edu/~stevelew/cbc...

Me neither. I thought for sure it was a young tarantula, until I looked it up on the web.
