Just don't get too close. The thing about watersnakes is that many times you have to get a look at the belly pattern to make a positive ID. As a rule it's best not to mess with snakes up close and personal unless you've had some training on what can hurt you and what can't.

Ok thanks I might be able to get another picture a little bit more close up, but more than likely I think it is a Water snake too.
Tough to say from that photo, but I would guess a Watersnake (Genus Nerodia) of some kind
