21/2 to 3 feet tall with soft spiny leaves

Habitat:

spotted under a billboard in a sunny,vacant lot adjacent to a major highway

Notes:

As kids we were always told this was jimson weed, but I can't find this flower under that name.

this is not jimson weed. Jimson weed is usually the common name for a species of Datura, a very toxic plant. this to me looks like a type of poppy. not 100% sure of the species but the genus looks like Argemone
