White-tailed Deer

Odocoileus virginianus

Description:

White-tailed deer are one of North America's most common big game animal, native to nearly all US states and Canadian provinces and stretching southward into Mexico, Central America, and into northern South America. White-tailed deer are a medium sized deer. Their coats are reddish during the summer and grayish brown in winter.

Habitat:

Forests and riparian zones along rivers in grasslands.

Notes:

I came upon this doe as the sun was setting. They are curious animals and she was no exception as she circled me at a distance of about 50 feet. It's always a fun experience when these otherwise wary animals hang around long enough to observe their behavior. The does should start birthing their fawns soon.
