Maxima Clam

Tridacna maxima

Description:

Also called the "Small Giant Clam" because it looks similar to the true Giant Clam, but doesn't grow nearly as big. Most of the clam is embedded into the rock of the reef, leaving only the mantle visible. The mantle can be all sorts of colours because symbiotic algae live inside the tissue.

Habitat:

Shallows of coral reefs, no deeper than 20m.

I love giant clam! I know we have T. gigas, T. maxima and T. squamosa where I'm from, but it's hard to tell which one is which... :D

Thanks Alice :) I recently found another photo of one of these, a blue one, but the quality isn't so great so been reluctant to upload it!
