Large black beetle, I think its some type of carabid but im not 100%. strong jaws and some irridescence.

Habitat:

found him on a sidewalk at dawn and brought him into the photo studio

This ground beetle is sometime called Searchers, this one is from genus Carabus, probably nemoratus
