Vespertilionidae
Small, brown bat
i found this bat on the floor of my house.
I'll tell you, yet another, interesting fact, about my house being an attractive spot, for some wandering bats. First of all, check out the link, to see the photograph of the, ceiling of Drive-in, in my house :- "https://picasaweb.google.com/darvesh.singh/DropBox?locked=true&pli=1&gsessionid=WgTYWwgoRtTQ3DtJM-LYFQ#5606189839197571362"
There are 100 concave depressions, on the design of the ceiling. Now, these depressions reflect and amplify even the slightest of sound. So when passing-by bats navigate through sonar, they get confused from the heavy reflections from the ceiling, and perceive the underneath of the Drive-in to be a cave. And caves are an attractive place for the bats to hunt. I have seen this behavior mostly in the night time when its cold and pleasant outside. :-)
Very interesting! It's true that animals with rabies will often isolate themselves, but that bat would have been dead by now. Pregnant animals can also isolate themselves, and juvenile bats can be caught on the ground more frequently. Maybe this is an offspring? Could be totally unrelated, too. If it got up and flew away, it's probably healthy. It sounds like an attractive spot.
With the information given by you gals, i add some facts and listen the story that goes this way.
Recently, i am busy, with the construction of my Recording Studio. An my construction area, there are two rooms, that are intended for soundproofing and thus are constructed with all the sides closed without any windows even. So naturally these rooms are damp and cold. Say, probably some 4 to 5 months ago, there was a bat of this species living in one of these damp rooms.
Could it be the same bat, if, for a moment we consider that, this bat is infected with some problem. Now, if the bat is infected, with some disease then it will not be able to compete with other healthy bats in a swarm so this one could have had, deliberately isolated itself from its competitors. And moreover my construction site is full of plants, that support insects and that what bats feed on !!!
A probable question is that could this spotting be the same bat, that i have seen in one of my damp rooms ?
secondly, if the previous bat was infected then could it survive for 5 months, to reappear again [ my house and the construction site are very close to each other ,just about 100 m apart ]
OK, that's interesting, i cannot tell very clearly about, bat being in trouble, as it was very stationary and just when i finished clicking the last photo it flew away. :-)
... some species aren't capable of flying off from the ground, while others can walk and even run. I think it depends on what species this is. In the US, however, it's considered a telling sign.
Not to be an alarmist, but it's often a sign the bat is sick with rabies. Did it seem it was having trouble?
