Bird Grasshopper (nymph)

Valanga sp.

Description:

I think that this might be Valanga nigricornis (Burmeister, 1838), but I can't be sure with such a young nymph. I spotted the exuvia (moulted exoskeleton - shown in the last photo) on a leaf in our backyard and was just thinking that it would be nice if I could also get apicture of the newly moulted grasshopper. I almost missed it, sitting on an adjacent leaf of the same plant, because its colour was so close to that of the leaf. I adjusted the contrast in my pictures to make the grasshopper easier to see.

Habitat:

Spotted on Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus) in our backyard.
