Syntomeida epilais
The polka-dot wasp moth is not a wasp at all but rather a moth that looks dangerous but is harmless. It is also called the Oleander moth and its larva is the oleander caterpillar. It is a day flier.
It is native to the Caribbean and seen throughout all Florida except the northwestern part.
This one was seen at a Home Depot garden center feasting on a marigold blossom. Its larva, the oleander caterpillar is very destructive to ornamental plants.
