Thanks Dan! I checked out some balloon flower photos and these ones didn't do that before they opened up, but I think you're definitely right about the Campanula.

I have these too in my garden, really cool right before they open up. They might possibly be a species of Campanula though, if they don't look like a balloon before they open.
