Cocks Comb

Celosia argentea var plumosa

Description:

Beautiful red tufting at the top of a reddish green stem

Habitat:

I am pretty sure this was not planted but sprouted among the entrance to one of the Communities I walk past in the morning. We used to have it in our yard in New Jersey.

I think it is Celosia argentea var. plumosa
http://www.geomancy.net/phpforum/article...
It is in the Amarantaceae therefore is an Amaranth. I didn't realize that these annual amaranths (celosia) are also edible.

I'd say your ID is correct. You could add var. plumosa

That's my opinion.
