Cornstalk Dracaena

Dracaena fragrans

Description:

This tree is over 20 feet tall. The Leaves are ribbed and in this case the tree is getting too much water from a leaky pipe below. That is why it may have the dying leaves or they are replaced by others? The trunk is shown in the third picture. I have seen this in other places here and it may be one of the native plants. This may have twin trunks I'll check.

Habitat:

Sunny places.

Notes:

Any ideas?

Sounds like a good plan.

I've seen mostly the upper half, but with my duties here I've had to stay close to the Clinic. I did have some Clinics in a couple of places away from Tana.
Getting back to the USA will be an adjustment. I plan to go on shorter term Dental Clinic's to Central America or other places as the opportunity arises.

Wow! Thats a long time! Have you seen the whole country? What's next? Life in the US will be quite an adjustment. I know how rough it can be in Madagascar.

I've been here 4 1/2 years and will be leaving Madagascar in the middle of July when the replacements arrive. It has been quite interesting living here.

How long have you/will you be in Madagascar?

Sure, no problem.

Thanks, Dan! I see that it is a native of the continent of Africa and not the Island here. I have seen it growing in several places, but in areas where it has been placed. I'm glad to have you ID it. I also know why it is getting the dried out tips, since we have a leak that will be fixed right below it. I read that it needs to be dried out before watering not a swamp :)

Joseph, I think this is Dracaena fragrans (Cornstalk Dracaena). It's not native to Madagascar though. I might be wrong on the species but I think it is Dracaena.

I have Dracaena also in my houseplant collection but a different species.
