Leaf-footed bugs

Coreidae

Description:

A vegetarian true bug that has flattened hind legs that have a leaf like structure. There are 40 species in Florida. They can defend themselves with a chemical spray and can fly.

Habitat:

These were chewing on my Green Pepper plant. It says they lay their eggs on roses and that may be why they are in my garden as I have a big rose bush.

Notes:

One common Florida species, which feeds only on cactus, was exported to Australia to help control Prickly pear cactus that had taken over huge areas of rangeland.
