Description:

Perennial wildflower with broad, oval shaped, hairless green leaves. Flowers develop on erect spikes. Important food source for many wild animals. Native to Europe, naturalized in many areas.

Habitat:

Suburban yard.

Notes:

Young leaves and seeds are edible but require much preparation. Seeds can be ground into a flour substitute. Many medicinal uses are known.
