I would compare it to a robins nest for size and depth. (I found one at work while moving a truck, the photo bird's nest is slightly larger then the none i found at work but pretty close)
As for height of the nest i am 6'2" and I slightly bent over to take the photo.
Tyler, this is definetly not that of a swallow. I am more inclined to say that this is a Hawks nest . One that hawks like to build their nests high up in the tree at least 6 ft above the ground. A pine Tree can provide that kind of location. Also they like to build the nest between forked branches so that they ca have a good aerial view of their territory. Is the nest about 3 ft wide?
I did have a poke around it. There was mud used in it's construction. Where this was taken there are no doves. It will not let me move the location to the accurate spot. There are hawks in that location. It was above a mine shaft on the my property about 400 meters or less from the Montreal river if that helps. Thank you for your post.
It really looks like a Hawks nest to me. I have seen hummingbird nests and they are very small. Swallow nests are made of mud. Dove's usually make their nests on oak tree and not so high up. Hawks would ideally choose pine trees.

The material seems to be twigs , Doves usually use softer material.
