Cutleaf Weeping Birch

Description:

This broadleaf deciduous is still a young tree. Is quite skinny and has a lower number of branches than it's similar neighbour's. Low number of foliage due to the weather and season, which appears to be normal with frost damage. May have had history with pests or drought, resulting in growing spindle and bare. Bark looks normal.

Habitat:

The Wetland Gardens in the Olds College botanical gardens. This tree is placed in a sunny area with others of its kind, spaced enough away for optimum room to grow. Good drainage due to being on a slight hill in a planting bed. Some dandelion weeds present but no concern.

Notes:

Staying aware of pests, may be more susceptible to disease and pest issues now and in the future. Regular watering due to harsh sunlight and a possibly windy habitat. Pruning to reduce branches crossing and increase energy into growth.
